Lady Chevrons off to Uganda

THE Zimbabwe women’s cricket team left for Uganda early this morning for a triangular T20 series that also features Kenya.
Zimbabwe are using the tour as part of their preparations for the ICC Africa Women’s Qualifier 2019 tournament which they will be hosting in Harare and Bulawayo in May.

Lady Chevrons coach Adam Chifo said they had prepared thoroughly for the triangular series in East Africa.

“We have been in camp for over a month-and-a-half and this has been the longest period that our girls have been exposed to not just training but quality preparations,” Chifo told the Daily News.
“All the aspects of the game were worked on be it fitness, batting and fielding.

“This is our last regional or international assignment as far as our preparations for the ICC Women World Cup Africa Qualifier which we are hosting in our backyard next month are concerned.
“We are not taking these games lightly as the outcome in Uganda may just be a reflection of what to expect at home next month.”
The Lady Chevrons rounded off their preparations for the trip to Uganda with an exhibition T20 match against a Media IX Select at Old Hararians Sports last week.

Zimbabwe Cricket head of corporate affairs Nesta Vaki top scored for the team from the fourth estate with 19 runs from nine deliveries.

Vaki’s knock included three boundaries while wicketkeeper-batsman Emily Njinjika and tail-ender Chipo Sabeta showed rare signs of ambidextrous as they could bat with both hands; at one point they were right handers before changing stance to be left handers.

The Media XI lost the match by 30 runs after they were only able to reach 52-9 riding on Vaki’s 19.
The Lady Chevrons batted first as they posted a total of 89 for two after Lorraine Phiri (8) was stumped by Njinjika.
Later on, Njinjika swapped the gloves for the ball as she trapped Francisca Chipare for a duck.
