Zanu PF seething over US sanctions

Miffed ruling Zanu PF bigwigs yesterday told off the United States of America (USA) after its president Donald Trump extended sanctions on Zimbabwe by another year on Monday.

In extending the sanctions, Trump accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF government of not instituting broad political, economic and rights reforms to necessitate the removal of the punitive restrictions.

Speaking to journalists in Harare yesterday, after his party’s politburo meeting, Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said the USA’s actions were as good as attempting to overthrow a legitimate government.

“We are not a colony of anybody, we are a sovereign State. We can’t give conditions to America itself. Will they like that?
“To tell Trump now that we are giving you the following conditions, do you think he will say thank you? Describe us in another language, but we cannot be given conditions.

“To start with, we never had any problem with the American government or administration. This is a historical problem between us and Britain in terms of the land issue. That’s where it started,” Khaya Moyo said. “America never colonised us. Why should they now be giving us conditions and say now also it affects their foreign policy. What does that mean?

“It just means that they want to overthrow the elected government, the legitimately-elected government and we cannot go by that. We are a sovereign State and we shall remain sovereign,” he added.
This comes after Trump raised hopes last year that his government could finally end nearly two decades of frosty relations between the US and Zimbabwe, after he sent a powerful delegation to Harare to engage with Mnangagwa ahead of the country’s elections.

However, on Monday he extended the sanctions after citing little progress in the implementation of broad reforms which his administration had hoped would have been completed by the time Zimbabwe held the historic July 30, 2018 elections.

“On March 6, 2003, by Executive Order 13288, the president declared a national emergency and blocked the property of certain persons, pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701-1706), to deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States constituted by the actions and policies of certain members of the government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine … democratic processes or institutions.

“These actions and policies had contributed to the deliberate breakdown in the rule of law in Zimbabwe, to politically motivated violence and intimidation in that country, and to political and economic instability in the southern African region.
“The actions and policies of these persons continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States.

“For this reason, the national emergency declared on March 6, 2003, and the measures adopted on that date, on November 22, 2005, and on July 25, 2008, to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond March 6, 2019.

“Therefore … I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288,” Trump said on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Zanu PF politburo yesterday dissolved its Harare and Bulawayo party structures.

The party also nullified the vote of no confidence on its youth leaders — Pupurai Togarepi, Lewis Matutu, Tendai Chirau, Admire Mahachi and Mercy Mugomo. The leaders were accused of allegedly failing to defend Mnangagwa.

Lovemore Matuke has now been tasked with investigating the origins of the vote of no confidence petition, as well as identifying the signatories — and to present a report to the party at the next politburo meeting.

What's your problem. Just retaliate and also impose sanctions on them. If you cannot then release Joana Mamombe to show that you are truly repentant.. Period.

These Zanu pf idots have no shame at all.Simon Khaya Moyo is just blubbering ,he is not stating things as they are.Sanctions imposed on Zim leaders by America was as a result of Sim on Khaya Moyo and his Zanu pf mafia gang killing its own people, torturing them, abducting them, displacing them, arresting them willy nilly all because they dont support Zanu pf.Lack of basic military reforms was also one of the reasons why sanctions were put.Look at how the trigger happy Army has butchered innocent citizens in the last few months and you hear a full grown granny like the pint sized Kaya Moyo telling the world that no one should dictate to us on how we should run our own affairs.our own affairs of stealing and looting all state resources and relegating the vast majority to abject poverty?Look at how the Zanu pf president ,Ngwena is defending the army for their brutality against innocent citizens and he expects the world to contact business with such a rogue state? My foot! Stop killing, stop human rights abuses, stop stealing from govt coffers, stop high level corruption which stinks to high heavens, implement policies that atttract foreign investments,Reform the electoral system,Reform the security sector and in a flash there will be no sanctions Khaya Moyo and your fellow wailers.

We do not account to the US, period! The US foreign policy history is about fomenting trouble in countries that do not subscribe to their warped views. The US is at liberty to trade with whoever they want and we have no need to worry about their sanctions.

So whats next for Ramaphosa and SADC who made noise about the unconditional removal of sanctions - zanuf should be blaming its peers for blind solidarity. SADC and Ramaphosa if they want to be relevant to the future of Zimbabwe they must come clean with zanupf and encourage them to implement the reforms needed to turn around the country's human rights image and economic fortunes. Khaya Moyo needs to be reminded that Zimbabwe has been a sovereign state since 1980 but sovereignity does not put bread and butter on the tables of all citizenry its a dis-service and an insult to the hungry populace.

    Sinyo - 8 March 2019

One definition of sovereignty is "the supreme power or authority of a state to govern itself". Given the embarrassing failure all round of the Zanu pf govt, it has actually lost that sovereignty which is why its professors and gunmen are not resting begging for investment all over. Revise your modus operandi if you really need US investment or simply stop bothering them. Zim has no monopoly on sovereignty.

Mnangagwa's language at the burial of that Gukurahundi zilot shows that his mantra of Zim Open for Business is just noise. That guy is not committed to anything. He is just content to be called President, seeing body guards around, that's all, inside that big head, there is nothing good. so old usually said if you want to see a fool, let them open their mouth. Even if Mnangagwa travels around the world 20 times, he is not going to achieve anything because he is illegitimate, incompetent, insincere. He is playing with people's lives, futures so they can loot the country. Emmerson, God wants you to repent and you don't have time. You need to stop this life of living on the blood of other people. How can you be happy living and eating in that state house, food from the sweat of old man, retired man and women whom you have taken away their savings and they cant enjoy old age, Emmerson is just cruel and selfish, woo unto you.

Sanctions mantra, we have heard this for many years, reminiscent of the Rambai makashinga jingles. Those saying we don't care about sanctions feed on the government feeding trough and they want the citizens to shingirira. We are tired of being fooled by people who don't want to do things right. As citizens I think we need to find ways to eliminate these guys who think that they cant be removed because they have guns. Many goverments which were armed to the tow have been removed by the people power. Solders can not compare to the people in numbers, we have the power, even without a single gun. These Zanu pf bellies only want power and not to develop this country. If we allow them to continue this country will and is now a Pariah.

    Baba Mary - 11 March 2019

Zanu Pf has nothing to market in the next elections. the only way they can survive is to talk to Chamisa, because he has the people, the people voted for Chamisa, not that big headed killer, who has already killed over 20 people in less than 1 year.
