Jeys Marabini hails Macheso

HARARE - Veteran jazz musician Jeys Marabini has hailed sungura giant Alick Macheso for his illustrious work in the music industry.

Receiving his best jazz musician award from Coca-Cola at Rainbow Towers yesterday, Marabini said Macheso is an encouragement to other musicians to keep working hard.

“Macheso is someone we look up to as he puts his all in his work and this encourages us to keep working hard,” he said.

Jeys is one of the most consistent musicians pursuing jazz music, hence his efforts were recognised in the just-ended Radio Zimbabwe Coca-Cola top 50 count down.

Macheso was voted best sungura musician in the Coca-Cola top 50 and received a certificate.

In his acceptance speech, Macheso called on upcoming musician to focus on clean lyrics that are family friendly.

“Us as artistes should strive to come up with lyrics that are family friendly, not dirty lyrics. This is something that we as musicians can be able to rectify.

“Pane imwe music yekuti unobuda mune vanhu uchinoteerera mu bathing room,” he said.
