Aug 1 shootings commander promoted

HARARE - Brigadier General Anselem Sanyatwe, commander of the elite presidential guard, has been promoted to Major General.

Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda conferred the rank on Sanyatwe, together with Brigadier General Thomas Moyo.

This comes after Sanyatwe hogged the limelight after telling a hearing in Harare of the special inquiry investigating the August 1 post-election killings that his men were not responsible for the shooting of six people in Harare just days after the country’s historic election in August.

Sanyatwe said troops had fired warning shots as they were trained to do.

He dismissed the widely circulated picture of a kneeling soldier who appeared to be aiming at protesters saying it was misleading and that the soldier was avoiding missiles thrown by protesters.

Promoting mediocrity, the lad has no clue what professional militarism is all about, he is just some zanupf apologist beneficiary with no proper military training. Both Sanyatwe and his Boss Velario should have resigned after their troops gunned down unarmed fleeing civilians on Aug 1. No wonder why none of our military commanders have been entrusted with an international or multinational assignment (except in SADC where mediocrity is synonymous) they don't have proper competences. So that is the Army's Christmas gift to Sanyatwe for gunning down 6 innocent civilians nothing is more disgusting.
