Mussa scores in Universals win over Truworths

HARARE - Former Warriors team manager Sharif Mussa scored his first goal for title aspirants Universals ensuring that the title race goes to the wire with eight games to go before the curtain comes down on the Harare Professionals Soccer League.

Universals were full value for their win beating Truworths 8-0.

Mussa celebrated his first goal by rounding off the scoring with a late penalty. 

“It’s always nice to score,” Mussa told the Daily News.

“It feels good and more because it helps the team have more goals. I could have scored many more goals but instead, I have chose to pass to my teammates who are there also to score.”

The huge win saw Universals, emerge as one of the serious title favourites after overtaking Star FM and Whelson Transport on points. Universals are now on 78 points, seven behind log-leaders Simbisa who maintained their winning streak with a 2-0 victory over Zifa Social Club.

Star FM’s 9-1 victory against African Sun Harare leaves them nine points off the top.

The game between Protector Rangers and Fresh Tigers  was given to Tigers after only six players turned up for Rangers.

Caaz overcame a stubborn Surface Wilmer side 1-0 to stay within a striking distance of the leading pack with 67 points while SPAR laboured to a 3- 2 victory over Young Boys.

In other matches Whelson Transport beat Bak Logistics 3-2 while Zim Lawyers edged GSC Wolves 1-0.

The victory gives the Lawyers a strong chance for a top four finish.
