Zimnat to hold half marathon

HARARE – Zimnat will on November 10, hold a half-marathon charity event at the Barclays Sports Club in Harare to raise money for a Bulawayo man who needs spinal surgery.

Cebisani Ndlovu, 30, requires surgery, which can be performed at a Bulawayo hospital at a cost of $7 500.

The Risk Management and Insurance graduate is said to be finding it increasingly difficult to walk, even with the aid of crutches.

“The marathon is open to anyone who wishes to participate in it and contribute towards assisting this him, whose abilities and employment opportunities are being undermined by his debilitating condition, which can only be rectified through surgery,” said Zimnat group marketing executive, Angela Mpala.

The registration fee is $5 for those running the short 5km, and $10 for those taking part in the 10km and 21km run.

“We would encourage as many people as possible to participate in this marathon to help raise funds to enable us to make this young man’s life better,” said Mpala.

This will be the first time Zimnat, an insurance and financial services company, holds such an event.

The marathon is set to start at 5.30 am featuring those who are running the full 21km marathon, while those running 10km start at 6.00am and 6.30am for 5km racers.

However, those who do not want to participate in the marathon but want to donate are encouraged to go on site and register.

According to a press statement, registration will be open at Eve’s Fitness Studio at 384 Isis Road in Vainona from Thursday November 8 until the day of the event.

Registration will continue on the day of the race at Barclay’s Sports Club, and the first 1 000 people to register will receive a free race day vest.
