Marume Classic on next week

HARARE - Marure Classic is back for the second edition in Harare following its postponement due to the July 30 harmonised elections.

The bodybuilding competition, which had been scheduled for August 4, will be held on October 20, at the Zimbabwe College of Music.

Four-time Mr Zimbabwe and six times Mr Ironman winner Givemore Marume who is the brains behind the fitness contest, said this year’s competition is set to be bigger and better as they have many sponsors.

“Sponsorship from corporates is encouraging with Saltrama Plastics coming in big this year supported by Health and All, Arch 360 Branding, Pro Fitness Health Club, Universal Furnitures, Payload Haulage and more,” Marume told the Daily News.

“We are expecting a bigger turn out as compared to last year’s event.”

Marume noted that there are a number of athletes that want to dethrone Blessing Nyapimbi, who won the inaugural title last year.

“Athletes who want to participate are looking pretty good...Nyapimbi who won last year has great focus to defend his title and the same goes for Chamu Marange who is a fitness champion,” he said.

“In the men’s physique the main battle is between defending champion Ryan Gumbo and Blessing Sithole, who won this category at the Zimbabwe Nationals.”

The Marume Classic will start at 2pm with the fitness challenge kick-starting the proceedings.

Last year’s edition was a success and Marume said he is looking forward to having contestants from other countries in his ambition to make the event international in future.
