NTC fines residents

HARARE - Norton Town Council (NTC) has fined three households for illegally connecting water to their residence.

Mayor Sylvester Gumisirayi said the illegal connections in Culfa ward 10, which were identified following a tip-off, deprived other residents of the precious liquid.

“These illegal connections resulted in other households failing to receive water when water was directed to ward 10. The fine for illegal connections is $575, so the three households that had illegal connections have been fined $575 each,” he said.

Gumisirayi warned would-be offenders that NTC would not tolerate any illegal activities and would fine all those found guilty of the offence.

Norton receives 15 mega litres of water from Harare on a daily basis, which is inadequate for its growing population.

Residents in other parts of Norton have resorted to digging wells and boreholes to ensure they don’t run dry.
