Tino Benza sinks Chiefs

HARARE - Herentals teenage sensation Tino Benza scored a scorcher as the Students eased their relegation worries with victory over Bulawayo Chiefs in a Castle Lager Premiership match yesterday.

This was the 17-year-old’s third goal of the season and saw Herentals move into eighth place on the log with 35 points from 26 matches.

Benza was introduced in the 53rd minute to replace Juan Mutudza, who had come on earlier in the 27th minute for the injured Brighton Majarira in the first half.

The Herentals substitute was at the right place at the right time to pounce on a rebound and his shot from outside the box whistled into the top right corner past Bulawayo Chiefs goalkeeper David Bizabani.

Having played out three consecutive draws, the Schoolboys’ coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva said: “The goal is very motivating; a gem of a goal. I think it’s one of the best goals I have seen so far in the league this season.

“It’s good for us, good three points after a series of draws in our previous encounters and getting it right this time.”

Bulawayo Chiefs coach Garthly Chipuka was gracious in defeat and praised Herentals for the stunning strike.

“Basically, our opposition were expecting a draw so maybe this is two points lost for us. We were managing the match well, I don’t know what happened” Chipuka said.

“Only a lapse in concentration but that goal was brilliant, I can’t take anything away from the boy.”

Chiefs remain in 11th place on the log with 30 points from 26 matches.
