Two in court over post-election violence

HARARE - Twomen who are alleged to have been part of the mob that demonstrated against the delay by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to announce the Presidential results yesterday appeared before the courts.

Jeremiah Zivengwa, 41 and Singo Simangaliso, 21 were arrested after being identified by witnesses who saw them allegedly committing the offence.

On August 1, the duo acting in connivance with others who are on remand and some still at large teamed up and allegedly proceeded to Zanu PF provincial headquarters along Simon Muzenda Road.

It is alleged that when they arrived there they pelted stones and other missiles at the building damaging windows and 12 precast wall lights.

The court heard that during the attack they went on to damage seven cars belonging to Zanu PF, before being dispersed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s reaction forces.
