Mutuma sinks Yadah FC

GWERU – Rodrick Mutuma returned to haunt his former paymasters when he grabbed a brace to hand Nichrut the much-needed 2-0 victory over Yadah FC in a Castle Lager Premiership match on Sunday.

Mutuma, who missed the midweek visit to ZPC Kariba through injury, summoned all his experience to score a double for the Shurugwi-based side as they continue their fight for survival.

With the victory, Nichrut remained 15th on the log table with 24 points having collected five points in their last three matches from a possible nine.

Crucially for Nichrut they have reduced the gap between them and Chapungu who are 14th on the log table having played the same number of matches.

“I am very happy, thumbs up to the boys, they heeded my calls we have been playing well over the past three games and today we managed to pick up three points we are in the right direction in the fight to avoid relegation” Nyikadzino said.

“I’m happy especially that our next fixture is facing CAPS United, confidence must be very high and consistency seems to be there now. It’s a positive result”

Yadah coach Thomas Ruzive attributed the loss to the fixture congestion with teams having played midweek games.

“We didn’t play well it could be pressure and fatigue because we played three games in a short space of time and that resulted in us conceding silly goals; but our objective is the same we want to avoid relegation” Ruzive said.

Nichrut settled early camping in the Yadah half and on 18 minutes, Yadah defender Brian Chikwenya brought down Farai Vimisai in the box leaving referee Allen Basvi with no option but to point to the spot.

Mutuma stepped up and sent Yadah goalkeeper Stephen Chimusoro the wrong way to give the home side a deserved lead.

MaShurugwi could have doubled their lead moments before the breather but Carlos Rusere’s shot from outside the box missed narrowly the target.

Nichrut continued with their dominance in the second half restricting Yadah to counter attacks and on one such occasion, Ralph Matema’s diving header was saved by Stanley Chakwana on 56 minutes.

However, seven minutes from time Mutuma delivered the sucker punch with a left-footed volley that nestled into the corner of the goal.
