Whawha form worries Petros

GWERU - Zifa Central Region Division One side Whawha coach Luke Petros is a worried man ahead of the top-of-the-table clash against Tongogara at Battlefields Grounds today.

Whawha have failed to win their last four matches recording goalless draws against TelOne FC and Shesham and Tongogara. They were also held to a 1-1 draw by Vumbachikwe.

It is against this background that Petros is having sleepless nights due to this worrisome trend which is now threatening to derail their chase for promotion into the Premiership.

“I’m really worried about these draws, it’s something I have been telling the guys to look at where we are and how other teams have gained ground due to the draws we have had,” Petros said.

“We are hopeful that this weekend, we will come good and pick up maximum points.

“It’s a tricky situation for us because of the number of teams below us who also want promotion.

“Tongogara is a good side and the team that will make use of their tactical ability will carry the day.”

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services side currently lead the log standings with 18 points and are only ahead of four other teams including Tongogara on goal difference.

Tongogara coach Calvin Maphosa is expecting a tough afternoon but expressed confidence in his side’s preparations ahead of the blockbuster encounter.

“It’s going to be a tough game. Whawha are a strong side.

“We are ready for them, we have prepared for this game for a long time and our boys had enough time to rest and recharge their batteries.”

The army side’s last dance with the Premiership was way back in 2001 and agonisingly missed out on promotion after coming second to Nichrut FC last season.

In the other fixtures today, ZPC Munyati are up against FCP U19 in Munyati while FC Lesafre are up against Ivan Hoe at Wilson Fields.

Shesham and TelOne FC will clash in a Gweru derby at Mkoba Stadium this afternoon.
