HARARE - Palm Publications has released two Computer Science Books 1 and 3, texts that have been endorsed by the Primary and Secondary Education ministry as responding to the demands of the new curriculum introduced in the country at the beginning of last year.

Written by renowned educationists Constance Makwarimba and Joyline Madziwa, the two volumes are for use at Form One and Three levels.

Speaking about the publications, Tawanda Ndhlela of Palm Publications — a publishing firm established in 2016 to complement efforts at responding to the new curriculum — said: “The books have interesting topics like technopreneurship which makes use of local examples. This shows the Zimbabwean student that indeed what is being said is achievable. It is not something that is out of this world. At the moment, we are focusing on books that are used at ECD level up to “A” Level but very soon we will be looking at tertiary education.

“At the same time, we are also working on Shangani books in line with the requirements of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.”

Ndhlela added that the Shangani books should be available around June.

A holder of a Bachelor of Education management (Pretoria), Diploma in Education (UZ), ICDL (Speciss College), Computer Hardware Software and Security Management (Outreach), Makwarimba is a teacher at Mount Pleasant High School in Harare.

On the other hand, Madziwa — who is based at the Harare Institute of Technology — holds a MCom Information Systems (GZU), BSc Information systems (Wua), National Diploma in Information Systems (Hexco) and Diploma in Education (UZ). As such, the writers are people with an in-depth knowledge of the subject area.
Currently, the books are available at Fairways Stationers and Baroda booksellers.
