Zimsec bosses fired

HARARE - Three Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) directors have been given the boot while four others have been forced into indefinite leave pending an audit of the examinations system as the examinations body announced 2017 Ordinary Level results will be out by February 23.

The Zimsec board rang the changes yesterday following outrage over last year’s November Ordinary Level English Paper 2 examination.

Primary and Secondary Education minister Paul Mavima had attempted to manage the crisis by ordering a resit of the leaked English Paper 2 examination.

However, the High Court on Wednesday nullified Mavima’s directive following sustained pressure from parents.

Yesterday, the Zimsec board axed Zimsec director Esau Nhandara and his deputy John Maramba.

The duo was sent on three months’ leave pending leaving Zimsec.

Also in the line of fire was assistant director human resources J Thabete, who was sent on three months’ leave pending exiting Zimsec.

The future of four other directors hangs in the balance.

These include assistant director test development research and evaluation Machingaidze, assistant director examinations administration V Mguni, assistant director ICT V Kadenge, assistant director finance Z Muzenda.

The quartet has been sent on indefinite leave pending an audit of the examinations system.
