2 'monster' dads up for raping daughters

HARARE – Two Harare men appeared in court on Wednesday, facing charges of raping their respective daughters.

They were denied bail when they appeared before Harare magistrate Josephine Sande.

The fathers, whose identities cannot be revealed to protect the daughters, were both represented by Bothwell Ndlovu.

They were remanded in custody to December 12 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court because they face a third schedule charge.

Prosecutor Sabastian Mutizirwa alleged that on an unknown date in October, the first “monster dad”, 36, called his eight-year-old daughter into his bedroom and gave her a dollar.

He then instructed his daughter to get into the same blankets with him, the court heard, and then allegedly raped her.

The juvenile was warned against divulging the sexual assault but she lifted the lid on the case all the same, leading to his arrest.

In the second case, the father, 45, took advantage of his wife’s absence on November 24 and raped his eight-year-old daughter while her sibling watched.

The court heard that the dad got into the living room and found his daughter and son playing on the sofa.

He allegedly placed his toddler son on another sofa and removed his daughter’s underwear before raping her.

After the act, he threatened his daughter with a knife and told her that if she reported the offence she would be arrested and would suffer the ignominy of not having a dad.

On November 26, the minor confided in her mother and the case was reported to the police.

The juvenile was medically examined after her father’s arrest.
