Zimdancehall Awards tonight

HARARE - The awards ceremony for this year’s edition of the Zimdancehall Awards is on tonight at the 1+1 Club based at Longcheng Plaza in Harare.

Television personality Oscar Pambuka, whose company is hosting the awards, said the event will be strictly for invited guests.

“The awards ceremony will happen from 6pm till late. This event is strictly by invitation,” Pambuka said in a statement, adding:

“Then on the 29th of December all roads lead to Mbare Netball Complex for the Zimdancehall Awards after party session with all the nominees and winners of the awards. This event is for everyone.”

Potential highlights of the awards include the Song of The Year and best collaboration gongs where Killer T and ExQ’s duet Vanoreva Nhema is among the favourites.

In the Zimdancehall Song of the Year Award category, Vanoreva Nhema is up against Soul Jah Love’s Pamamonya and Mwana waStembeni.

The other songs in the running for the same award are Blot’s Ndoripinda and Rufu; Power Rasta’s Mababy, Mastreets by Silent Killer, Bounty Lisa’s Munondiripa and Kana Ndisipo by  Kadija.

In the Best Zimdancehall Collaboration category, Vanoreva Nhema will have to get more votes than six other hits.

These include Freeman and Daruler’s Zvichangotanga, Winky D and Buffalo’s Rugare, Dadza D and Scadda T’s Short Remukati, Soul Jah Love and T sweetness’ Ndabaiwa and Empress Massina and Kinnah’s Tovatinha.

Another heated battle is in the Best Zimdancehall Album Award category where Top Striker by Freeman is up against Celcious’ Hupenyu, Ndofirapo by Soul Jah Love, Reality by Lady Squanda and Zunza Mukwende by Empress Massina.

Zimbabwe’s leading Zimdancehall stars — Soul Jah Love, Winky D, Killer T, Seh Calaz and Kinnah — are squaring it off in the King of Zimdancehall Award which features all the genre’s key players.

In the competitive Best Male Vocalist Award category Seh Calaz, who has won the award several times in the past, will have to see off the challenge posed by Kinnah, Guspy Warrior, Celcious and Freeman.

The Queen of Zimdancehall Award fittingly features the self-proclaimed boss of the category Lady Squanda who has to see off the challenge from Kadija, Empress Massina, X Patriot and Daruler.
