I'm a servant of the people - Mnangagwa

HARARE - Zimbabwe’s President-designate Emmerson Mnangagwa returned to the country from exile today before going on to address a crowd at the Zanu PF HQ where he promised to be a “servant of the people”.

Mnangagwa, 75, will be sworn in as Zimbabwe’s second president on Friday taking over from the ousted long-serving Robert Mugabe, who resigned from his post after sustained pressure from the military, opposition parties, the public and other civic organisations.

He arrived in the country from Johannesburg, South Africa and landed at Manyame Airbase this afternoon before proceeding directly to the Zanu PF HQ  where a crowd of several thousands had gathered to hear his first speech as president-in-waiting.

“I urge myself to be your servant. I appeal to all genuine patriotic Zimbabweans to come together, we work together, no one is more important than the other. We are all Zimbabweans,” Mnangagwa said to rapturous applauses.

“We need to grow our economy. We want peace in our country. We want jobs. We need the corporation of our friends in Sadc. We need the corporation of the continent of Africa. We need the corporation of our friends outside the continent.”

Mnangagwa left the country in a huff last week shortly after he was axed as vice president by former President Mugabe at the start of this month.

Mugabe, who ruled the country with an iron grip for 37 years, finally caved to popular and political pressure on Tuesday, hours after parliament launched proceedings to impeach him.

He had refused to leave office during eight days of uncertainty that began with a military takeover last week.

But honestly that picture of corrupt theiving 'son' of Mugabe beeming like a hyena is just sickening. Should we forget his misdeeds asa nation. Cn we not see these chameleons who just yesterday were proping up Mugabe and looting our resources in the process. Should we forget that Chinamasas son was caught with millions of USD in his car attempting to cross into RSA? No Zimbabwe, lets not be like an immature sweet sixteen enamored by cheep sweets. Munagwagwa is no messiah, neither has his Zanu Pee F changed. Our real hreroes are Tsvangirais and Maraires who stood up when most of us cowered. Lets register to vote out this whole rotten system and start on a real new democratic slate. Wake Up Zimbabwe. In doing so, please reconsider what Mnangagwa's statement 'Vanovukura vachavukura Isu tichingotonga'. Already he is declaring is dicatatorship aspirations and we are ululating. Come on Zim.

Mr ED be aware that you are not yet the people's Hero, Chiwenga is (despite who was the brains behind the move to get Mugabe off power), so be careful on your steps towards becoming that HERO that you "should" become, do not let power and greed get in you way.
