Fans 'bash' Andy Muridzo

HARARE - Musician Andy Muridzo had to thank the Almighty for escaping unhurt over the weekend in Banket as dozens of angry fans were baying for his blood after he came late for a concert.

The Dherira hit-maker had two concerts on Saturday afternoon, hence deliberately chose to keep his Banket fans waiting.

It was reported that Muridzo arrived at the venue hours later and his fans had already lost patience.

As a result, angry fans who had thronged the venue — a primary school in the town — took the law into their hands upon his arrival.

He escaped the melee unhurt as he quickly jumped on stage to calm his fans’ tempers by apologising before his act.

Muridzo confirmed the development to the Daily News.

“I am sorry to my fans in Banket. I know they were angry and that was the reason why they wanted to physically attack me.

“I pitched for the afternoon concert two hours later as I had some engagements earlier on and the development did not get down well with them,” he said.

“As I was wrong, I went on to compensate them by extending my act with more than 30 minutes.”

This incident comes barely a week after Jah Prayzah was assaulted by fans after he came to a concert late, a development which angered his fans who started throwing missiles on stage in protest.

The development forced the Jerusarema hit maker to publicly apologise to the fans while he was on stage.

Of late, most local artistes have a tendency of coming to their concerts late.

The majority of fans have lost interest in so-called family shows as the events tend to start deep in the night instead of advertised time usually of 1400hours.
