Chiwunga blow for Rhinos

HARARE - Black Rhinos have been dealt a huge blow in their quest to survive relegation after striker and current Castle Lager Premiership joint top goal scorer Lot Chiwunga was ruled out of this afternoon’s must win encounter against CAPS United through suspension.

Chiwunga, who is currently tied on 12 goals with CAPS United striker Dominic Chungwa at the top of the goal scorers charts accrued three yellow cards and will not be available this afternoon for the game set for National Sports Stadium.

The former Douglas Warriors forward has been a key figure in Black Rhinos’ push this year chipping in with some crucial goals and his coach Stanford Mutizwa was left to lament his absence in a game he feels they need to win at all costs.

“It’s going to be a big blow for us. He is our top striker and in matches like this you always want to have all your best players available,” Mutizwa told the Daily News yesterday.

“I hope whoever is going to fill his shoes will be able to rise to the occasion and provide us with what we are expecting. I think it’s also an opportunity to show that they are equally good.”

On the game against CAPS United, Mutizwa said it’s not going to be an easy match.

“We respect CAPS, they are the reigning champions and it’s going to be a tough game for us,” he said.

“We have been preparing for the game and we hope we will be able to collect maximum points. It’s one game that we don’t need to drop points especially when you consider our position on the log table.

“We are not safe from relegation and we need to collect as many points as we can. So we are approaching this game with a positive mind.

“Of course, it’s going to be a tough match but we are going to work hard and ensure we pick maximum points.”

Chauya Chipembere currently sit eighth on the log table with 37 points with only six points separating them with Shabanie Mine who occupy the last relegation slot on the log table.

In other matches set for today, Harare City travel to Luveve Stadium for a date against Chicken Inn hoping to continue with their resurgence.

City are still far from safety and are desperate for maximum points to ease their relegation worries.

Chicken Inn are eager to bounce back to winning ways following recent struggles which have seen them trail log leaders Dynamos by five points with six matches left before the ends.

Today: Triangle United v Highlanders (Gibbo), Black Rhinos v CAPS United (National Sports), Chicken Inn v Harare City (Luveve)
