All set for Chibuku draw

HARARE - The draw for this year’s edition of the Chibuku Super Cup will be held this afternoon at the Delta Beverages head offices in the capital.

Today’s draw will decide the fixtures of preliminary round which will include the four bottom teams - Bantu Rovers, Tsholotsho, Hwnge and Shabanie Mine - and will be played this weekend.

The two winners from the preliminary round will join the 14 top teams in the first round in the first round of the competition which has been scheduled for the weekend of September 23-24.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for the first weekend of October 7-8 while the semi-finals will be played on the weekend October 21-22 with the final set for the weekend of November 11-12.

Ngezi Platinum Stars are the defending champions of the competition after beating FC Platinum 3-1 in last year’s final at Baobab Stadium.

Tonderai Ndiraya’s charges went on to represent the country in the African Confederation Cup before they were knocked out in the second round of the competition by Angolan side Loboli CD.

The platinum miners had reached the first round of the tournament following a 2-1 aggregate win against Pamplemousses SC of Mauritius.

Ngezi Platinum Stars currently sit fourth on the log table trailing leaders Chicken Inn by two points with nine games to go before the season ends.

The winners of the Chibuku Super Cup, who get $75 000, will also play against the league winners at the end of the season in the Castle Challenge Cup which was introduced at the start of this season.

The match which will be played on the last weekend of the football season and will see the winners get $30 000 and the runners getting $20 000.
