Whawha's lead cut short

HARARE - Former Premiership side Whawha drew 1-1 with Vumbachikwe and saw their advantage at the top of the Zifa Central Region Division One cut at the weekend, with Tongogara closing in.

The result meant Tongogara moved to within two points of Luke Petros’ side having thumped Kwekwe Stars 0-3 away at Mbizo Stadium and are now on 49 points while Whawha are on 51 points after 23 matches.

Nichrut  who are still fancying their chances for promotion sit third on the log table with 45 points and trail the log leaders by just six points after beating MSU 1-0.

In the Northern Region, log leaders Herentals extended their lead at the top of the table with a deserved 3-0 victory over Mushowani.

Herentals are now on 58 points, a massive 18 ahead of second-placed Golden Valley, who were held to a goalless draw by Blue Swallows.

Golden Valley, who still have a game in hand, are on 40 points and will be praying Herentals lose a couple of games if they are to gain promotion into the country’s top flight league next season.

Meanwhile, Harare City Cubs bounced back to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory over Karoi to take their tally to 34 points while moving up the ladder to 10th place.

In the Southern Region, Bulawayo Chiefs stayed at the top of the log six points ahead of second placed ZPC Hwange despite being held to a goalless draw by Casmyn at the weekend.

Chiefs, who are unbeaten and have only conceded twice this season, have so far garnered 44 points from 16 matches.

ZPC Hwange are on 38 points but have played two games more than Chiefs.
