Herentals keen to maintain form

HARARE - Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva has urged his charges not to let standards slip in the remaining matches despite boasting a commanding lead at the top of the Zifa Northern Region Division One League.

The School Boys are seeking a place in the top flight league for next year having come close in the previous seasons and are 16 points ahead of nearest challengers Golden Valley after playing 23 rounds of action.

At the weekend, Herentals dispatched Ngezi Platinum Under-19 1-0 to take their tally to 55 points with Mutiwekuziva urging his men to maintain the hunger and avoid complacency.

“We are hungry and we want the best,” Mutiwekuziva said.

“It’s good to be 16 points ahead, but that can very quickly change. So we have to keep giving our all and try to win each game. We are going to treat the remaining matches the same way that we have been doing since the start of the season. The good thing is that we all know what we want and we are looking forward to keep on doing well.”

Golden Valley could, however, reduce the gap to 13 points if they win their game in hand against Mufakose.

Valley have been enjoying good form lately and are still fancying their chances to dislodge Herentals from the top.

At the weekend, Golden Valley emerged 2-1 victors over Chitungwiza.

In other matches played over the weekend, Cranborne Bullets dispatched Kariba Waves 1-2 away at Nyamhunga Stadium.

Mufakose lost 1-2 to Blue Swallows while Harare City Cubs were held to a goalless draw against Shamva.

In the Zifa Central Region Division One, Whawha extended their lead at the top of the table to four points following a 2-1 win over Midlands State University.

The former Premiership side took full advantage of Tongogara’s slip-up after the army side were held to a goalless home draw by ZPC Munyati.
