Linyama blow for Rhinos

HARARE - Fast-fading former Castle Lager Premiership log leaders Black Rhinos will be without influential defender Sydney Linyama for Saturday’s match against title-chasing Chicken Inn at Rufaro Stadium.

The centre back has been suspended by the Premier Soccer League for accumulating three yellow cards and will have to miss the clash against the Gamecocks.

Linyama picked up the cautions in the games against Ngezi Platinum Stars, Chapungu and Bantu Rovers.

Losing one of their best defenders for such a crucial match will only make life difficult for Stanford “Stix” Mutizwa as he tries to stop the wretched patch of form his side is going through.

In the first half of the season, Chauya Chipembere was solid at the back and gave away little but that has drastically changed.

Rhinos have lost their last four games going down to Ngezi (4-2), Chapungu (3-0), Dynamos (1-0) and Bantu Rovers (1-0).

This poor run has seen the army side drop to eighth place on the log and they now trail Ngezi by 12 points.

Rhinos are in danger of continuing with that losing streak as they face a highly-charged Gamecocks side that is pushing Ngezi for the title.

Rahman Gumbo’s side come into the match in second place on the log with 42 points and trail Ngezi by a single point.

The Gamecocks are also on a six-game unbeaten run which will give them confidence.

The other players, who are also suspended from taking part during this weekend’s action, are Takudzwa Chimwemwe (Harare City), Admire Dzumbunu (Shabanie Mine), Ransome Pavari (Bulawayo City), Kuda Musharu (How Mine).

Meanwhile, Dynamos and Highlanders will not be in action this weekend as they will be taking part in the Super Power Cup invitational tournament in Botswana.

The Glamour Boys were supposed to travel to Bulawayo to face How Mine while Bosso were scheduled to host Tsholotsho.

However, both fixtures have been postponed.

In Botswana, the two sides will take on TAFIC and Mochudi Centre Chiefs this Saturday.
