Tigers finish season unbeaten

HARARE - He may have failed to dazzle at the Under-18 Coca Cola Craven Week in Johannesburg but all that became water under the bridge as Prince Edward School flyhalf Tinashe Hombiro led the Tigers to an unbeaten season.

The Tigers completed a fairy tale run in the schools rugby league after powering past Kyle College 29-12 on Saturday to earn the bragging rights.

Their good run was aided, in part, by the boot of Hombiro who totalled 114 points of the Tigers 428 points in 15 matches.

The Tigers’ only blemish was during a pre-season tour of Namibia where they lost 10-27 to Namibia’s top rugby playing school Windhoek Gym.

Before that they had accounted for Namibia’s Jan Mohr 43-16 and Windhoek High School.

They came back home for the Dairibord Rugby Festival where they accounted for Hilcrest College 19-11, Livingstone College Botswana 54-7 and Churchil 24-8.

In the season they went on to beat Churchill again 31-20, in between that they accounted for Falcon College, 24-14, Peterhouse, 22-15, St Johns College, 38-31, St Georges College 28-22 and Eaglesvale 24-17.

The Shaun De Souza’s point machine was Hombiro who totalled 114 points that included two tries, 43 conversions and six penalties.

Speedster Tapiwa Marimira was the side’s leading try scorer having dived over the whitewash 11 times with Micheal Mhute not to far behind with 10 tries.

Andriss Georges’ eight tries put 40 points on the board with Sean Maenzanise scoring six.
