Chikanga, Nyamutsita win Old Mutual race

HARARE – Mr Pace-affiliated runners Bertha Chikanga and Canicious Nyamutsita underlined their growing status in short distance events cantering to victory in the Old Mutual Zimbabwe 10-kilometre run in Chitungwiza yesterday.

Chikanga was the first woman home after stopping the clock in 33 minutes and 11 seconds while Nyamutsita won the men’s race in 29 minutes and four seconds.

Chikanga has been in sublime form in both domestic and regional events.

The rising star last month bagged the Old Mutual Nkulumane Fun Run women race in a time of 35 minutes and 15 seconds.

She also had a memorable run at the Two Oceans Marathon 21km women’s section where she finished ninth.

Chikanga also participated at the JG Zuma Half Marathon in Durban, JM Busha 54races, Durban SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge and finished third at the Tanganda Half Marathon in Mutare.

Nyamutsita has also had his fair share of good performances, finishing 11th at the Two Oceans Marathon 21km race in Cape Town.

He won the Old Mutual Nkulumane Fun Run 10km race.

He also participated at the Matopos PPC 21km race in April and won the JM Busha 54 Races 21km and then finished third at the Tanganda Half Marathon.
