Yadah oil runs dry

HARARE - A brace from striker Wellington Taderera inspired Shabanie Mine to a 2-0 win to spoil Dennis Dauda’s debut for Yadah FC in a Castle Lager Premiership match yesterday.

Stray passes, misses and the 77th minute substitution summed up Dauda’s frustrating first game for “his father’s” side.

The defender joined Yadah last month after he was transfer-listed by CAPS United following match-fixing allegations.

Taderera opened the scoring eight minutes before full time when he slid in a low shot from inside the box past an exposed Yadah goalkeeper Tinashe Majadire.

The Chinda Boys striker completed his brace a minute from full time from a similar situation as the Yadah defence was nowhere to be seen.

Yadah assistant coach Thomas Ruzive conceded that it was a disappointing result and they would want to start picking up maximum points soon or face the dreaded chop.

“It’s disappointing losing at home and the manner in which we conceded very late and the defenders failing to deal decisively with harmless looking goal-scoring opportunities,” Ruzive said after the match.

“We thought we could do with the skill and flair possessed by Dauda that is why we played him upfront in midfield but I thought he didn’t play to our expectations on his debut but such things happen in football, he’s still a good player and with much game time he will be able to jell well with the rest of his teammates.”

Shabanie Mine head coach Takesure Chiragwi gave credit to his charges for showing consistency.

“I’m proud with the way the boys played, we could have even gone on to score 10 goals or more but at the end of the day what’s important is the fact that we managed to pick up three points on the road,” Chiragwi said.

“The boys are beginning to show some encouraging consistency in picking up points, we have been playing beautiful football throughout this entire first half of the season but with little or no results to show for that.

“We will go back, regroup and work towards the next assignment but today we will savour this victory because it is an important away victory for us.”
