Train fares slashed 30pc

HARARE - Train fares are being slashed by a third, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has said, possibly because of lower-than-expected ridership.

The cash fare for a one-way trip from Bulawayo to Harare, Bulawayo to Victoria Falls and Bulawayo to Sango Border Post or vice versa will be cut by 30 percent.

The new prices will take effect on July 3.

“Now you can enjoy your safe and comfortable overnight rides from Harare to Bulawayo or vice versa for $5 down from $8 and Bulawayo to Victoria Falls for only $6 down from $8,” NRZ said in a statement.

“NRZ will also offer trains and competitive rates from Bulawayo to Sango Border Post for $9. We will also offer trains and competitive fares from Bulawayo to Chiredzi for $8 and Harare to Mutare for $4.”
