Tsvangirai wary of Zanu PF infiltration

HARARE - Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC has warned its prospective coalition partners that it is keeping its eyes “wide open” to avoid carrying suspected Zanu PF “spies” into the eagerly-awaited grand alliance which will take President Robert Mugabe head-on in next year’s polls.

Tsvangirai and leaders of the smaller opposition parties who include former Vice President Joice Mujuru and his one-time secretary-general, Welshman Ncube, have signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs), as the opposition finalises steps to form the much-talked about electoral alliance.

“It may be concluded that if the opposition resolves internal questions and hold together until 2018 it represents a momentous development in Zimbabwe’s political history.

“If it maintains the support of civil society, it could lead one of the broad-based movements against the government ever seen. It is also important to highlight that Zimbabweans put their trust more in a bigger opposition force,” said MDC spokesperson Obert Gutu yesterday.

“On the other hand, while a coalition should be inclusive, it does not mean every party which claims to be an opposition party deserves a place in the grand coalition.

“Apart from opportunists, there are also infiltrators who will seek space in order to infiltrate and destabilise the coalition.

“Parties must demonstrate what they bring to the grand coalition beyond their names and leaders. It should also be noted that whilst a grand coalition is important, it is not the silver bullet for opposition parties,” Gutu added.

Last year, Tsvangirai also told diplomats that he was wary about the “real prospects” of the panicking ruling Zanu PF using some of the country’s smaller opposition parties to put spanners in the works of a viable grand coalition.

“Once again on this issue, Your Excellencies, you must understand that we reserve our right to determine who we will work with.

“There are about 42 political parties in the country, some of them deliberately created by Zanu PF to muddy the political waters. Some of them are not even institutions in the true sense of the word. We will do our own necessary diligence checks before we work with anyone,” the MDC leader told the diplomats then.

Some advice to MR tsvangirayi: It is also imperative that you keep ypour cards close to your chest. Do not announce (i.e.e advertise") everything that you are thinking or doing. Walls have ears, especially ZANU PF walls.

I think MDC is better off alone than joining with joice mujuru and all these other parties that we already know have absolutely no support base. Why is MDC so much in a panic sort of mode, don't they realize the only reason why they don't win elections is simply because zanu cheat in so many different ways? It's not because zanu has more supporters than MDC, now zanu will cheat again in the same ways they have done before and with even more new tricks even if the opposition make a coalition, why? Because MDC is not being honest to themselves in addressing the root cause of losing elections which is simply CHEATING!! They are concentrating on forming a coalition which is obviously not the soluton and after zanu cheat their way out they will look like real giants who won against all the opposition combined. Vakomana ngatifungeiwoka, ana joice, dydimus, gumbo etc vanhu ve zanu vakatotumwa kutitambisira nguva yatinofanira kunge tichitoita ma electoral reforms anoita kuti zanu ibve pairi apo payakazviisa yega iyo isingadiwe nevanhu. I would urge MDC T to cancel this whole coalition thing and do what they used to do best in the early 2000's, ie mobilizing people, re-formatting people's minds because right now everyone else except zanu is in a big cloud of smoke created by zanu, confusion yega yega and that's what zanu thrives on. It's time to wake up now. Dai kwainzi the original MDC is coming back together maybe I would understand that, not ana mujuru and company...ndokudyiwa makasvinura sematemba ka uku. After all joice is not intelligent enough to contribute anything that will help our cause that's why she was mugabe's deputy, do you think mugabe can appoint someone useful to be his vice, he always has a stooge of a deputy just look at mphoko and all the other deputies kkkkk, ndaseka hangu ini.

The simple reason for a coalition is to avoid a situation as that occurred in 2008. imagine what could have happened if there was an unnecessary opposition in the name of MKD presidential candidate.

Lets stop telling lies to the people, may u pliz bring real evidence to the so called cheating & let the evidence be quantified & find to extent what has it actually affacted Tsvangirai.Violence yes itz clear zanu pf employs violence in elections, intimidation yes zanu pf intimidates both urban & rural electorate but to what extent do these afact Tsvangirai? At every polling boot MDC was & will b fully represented pliz bring evidence of real cheating.U think people are fools.A party which openly lies to the people only for purpose of winning, is it worthy to b elected to zimbabwe house.Yes the military,CIOs& the police are being abused by the incumbent or zanu pf but there only elements within these forces which are really zanu pf at heart who do not embrace the national spirit but Mugabe& his party especially the top brace. The opposition might win the election only if they replace Tsvangirai with some vibrant politician who appeals even to the rural electorate.See what Chiluba did in Zambia to Kaunda.Tsvangirai will never win in rural areas bec of his anti-land distribution policies & is even facing declining support in urban areas & the youth in general due to his anti-democratic tendencies &old fashioned methods of leadership, thinks is a king-only resorting to lip service &manipulative democracy when in truth is after his kingship

alheit-nemoyowese - 9 June 2017

Iwe dofo uri right here mumusoro mako? You recommend Didymus mutasa for a "good post in Gvt" ? I can`t believe this. Newe gudo, you point out that zanu pf employs violence and intimidation, then you ask how that affects the MDC, isn`t it clear enough to you that the election outcome would be manipulated as a result of the intimidation and violence?

Saymor - 9 June 2017

My question is clear Samor-we ask of the claimed ballot cheating & nikvu rigging when Mdc is fully represented at every election stage & failing to report of all the possible anomalies which might happen in their presence.Only later resorting to claiming naked lies to the people, but endorsing all the election results at every polling boot.We hv admitted of the violence & intimidation we hv witnessed
