Tanga WekwaSando takes fans down memory lane

HARARE - Veteran musician Tanga WekwaSando belted out his old hits at the Monday Jam Session hosted by the City Sports Bar in Harare.

The Afro-jazz star opted to perform hits such which included Wake, Buhera, WekuMbare and Paidamoyo instead of promoting his latest and 14thstudio album titled Knock Knock.

With pint-sized percussionist John “Chibhodhoro” Muyambo (67) lighting up Tanga WekwaSando’s set, music fans were taken down memory lane in style. The animated fans sang along as Tanga WekwaSando dropped hit after hit.

In an earlier interview with the Daily News, the Afro-jazz star said his latest album, on which he featured the late Sam Mtukudzi on three songs, will bring him back in the limelight.

“I am optimistic that the 10 track album will go a long way in connecting me with my fans again, I will knock on the doors of my fans’ hearts. I featured Sam on tracks Ndiyeye (Nguye); Owakhe as well as Mai Bhoyi Ndauya. I only featured the late Sam on alto-saxophone and the tracks were recorded before his death in 2010,” said the 62-year-old artiste – a holder of a degree in International Economics- who runs PaFio Outdoor and Entertainment Centre in Highfield at Machipisa Shopping Centre.

At the City Sports Bar, Tanga WekwaSando shared the stage with several artistes who included Mark Ngwazi, Baba Harare, Ras Caleb, Talking Guitars, Prince Musarurwa, Jah Bless, Chikomana Shady, Natty B, Zhetstar, Chikwata 263, Biggie and Eriya Tembo .
