Kireni Zulu unveils new album tonight

HARARE - Marabi musician Kireni Zulu will unveil his eighth studio project titled Prophet Kitiwell at Cresta Oasis Hotel in Harare tonight.

Zulu is confident that the new eight-track album will win over music fans.

“Finally, the album will be out. I took so many years working on it and I believe fans will fall in love with it.

“My music (marabi) is classic and it is only confined to me. Other artistes are losing it because they are in competition but I am different.

“I take as much time as possible working on new albums before I release them. I have only seven albums under my name since I ventured into the music industry in 1998 with my debut project Panyika Pano,” the Marabi singer told the Daily News.

The title track likens corrupt “men of God” to brainy cats which prey on unassuming rats. Just like the cunning cat, the fake prophets use all forms of tricks, including donating food stuffs to the poor in order to fool people into believing that they are indeed “Men of God”.

Other tracks on the album are Ongorora, Chihera, Mazai aDhimba, Vanoruma, Mukadzi waZondi, Roti and Judas.

Some of his previous albums include Mazai Adhimba, Nyevero, Marabi Music, Mupata Wachidembo and Vhura Chivharo.

Zulu believes the release of the new album will afford him the time to help young artistes realise their potential.

“I feel I have played my part in the industry and it is time for me to nurture young talent so that the creative industry can continue moving forward,” said Zulu, who is also a Shona novelist.
