I remain close to Grace: Mahoka

HARARE - Militant Zanu PF women’s league finance secretary Sarah Mahoka has said she remains close to President Robert Mugabe’s wife, Grace, despite claims that the two no longer see eye-to-eye.

There had been assertions that the First Lady — who leads the Zanu PF women’s league as its secretary in the politburo — had a fallout with members of the Generation 40 (G40) faction, particularly Mahoka and Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere, allegedly over using her name in corrupt activities.

This prompted an unsuccessful attempt by the Zanu PF Mashonaland West women’s league provincial executive committee to censure Mahoka last year on allegations of embezzling over $100 000 donated by a popular Harare prophet.

But Mahoka — viewed as one of Grace’s “Golden Girls” together with women’s league deputy secretary Eunice Sandi Moyo and Senate president Edna Madzongwe — rubbished the claims in an interview with the Daily News this week, saying their relations remained pleasant.

“Those who say she has dumped me do not know what they are talking about,” she said.

“You all saw how I interacted with her during the conference in Masvingo where she delegated duties to me, calling my name at every turn and even asking me to introduce her when she spoke,” Mahoka said, adding “I thought that should send a message to all doubters that our relationship is very cordial”.

The abrasive Hurungwe East legislator exalted Grace saying she was too good to hate anyone and that she had no difficulty confronting anyone when she felt something was not right.

“Do you see her as someone who is able to hate? If she has a problem with you she simply takes you to talk and reprimands you but I have never had a problem with her myself. We have always been very close and it is the same with all other league members.”

“...she never pulls a woman down and that is why she encouraged us to take up elective posts in the 2018 elections.

“We are very united in the league under her able leadership,” Mahoka said.

Mahoka — who claims to be a Grade Two drop out – is among women who are pushing for the implementation of the women’s quota in Zanu PF that will see a woman becoming part of the presidency.

In February last year, Mahoka verbally attacked Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa — believed to be the godfather of the rival Team Lacoste faction — at the Zanu PF headquarters before a politburo meeting, hence the desire by the provincial women’s league led by Angeline Muchemenyi to censure her.

I hear mahoka yu are pushing to be minister of small, medium enterprises.Im not sure if yu can handle this but in zanu pple get posts for politics. But shuld yu succeed plse note.:The yuths are the real reasn for this ministry. This ministry has done nothing much for our yuths ,zanu yuths ,mdc yuths all yuths.China is has put $50b as an incentive for Chinese yuths to venture into African tourism .China wants to encourage cultural tourism. So if yu can Mahoka, pls advice all yuths to go back to their villages and see how they can turn their area into this tourism attraction,by putting up huts structures for these Chinese tourists.Even chinese like huts. This is seriouse and I advice all yuths wth nothing to do to look into this.Yu dont need state red tape to get the land,bt yo sabhuku. The Chinese minister for this ,a Mr Wang is due to visit 5African countries for this and im not sure if Zim is included.Because of the ustable China US relations now ,China wants to look to Africa for its economic growth.China wants to start by interacti g cultural activities wth Africa.Go for it yuths, zanu ,mdc n all.Its yos.Dont let us elders snatch it from yu.

It will be productive if government can be seriouse on this by sending a delegation to meet this Mr Wang .Tourism can help our yuths to participate in the economy.A bank can be put on high alert on this project ,to assist rural yuths and twn yuths to access funds for this. Our economy can pick up if we encourage the youths to participate in productive projects like this. Its farming, mining and tourism that we can envigorate to re organise our economy. The yuths should take tourism seriously wth state assistance. The current breakdown of US CHINA relations we have to take advantage of by pushing our country into this mantrix .We have natural resourses.China itself is looking at creating 193m jobs from natural energy like solar power. Our yuths must also be pushed to venture into this .Thats how we can partner China on this.

Chna this, China that! Can @Viola tell us of one Chinese brand? Yes, China for long has provided cheap labour for the major Western brands but they have never designed, developed and exported any notable brand of their own, compared for instance, to the Japanese. That's why their thrust now is to aim for "Designed in China" as opposed to "Made in China". Personally I hate Chinese products (not brands made in China) as most of them are fake and sub-standard, I stick to notable brands to avoid disappointment, but hey, there is freedom of choice.
