City Cubs, Mufakose United clash

HARARE - Harare Province Division 2A and 2B football league champions Harare City Cubs and Mufakose United are set for an intriguing battle when they clash in the annual Champions of Champions final.

The final will be held at Gwanzura Stadium tomorrow.

Both teams, who have been promoted to the Zifa Northern Region Division One League for next season after topping their respective divisions, are desperate to win the trophy to boost their confidence ahead of next season.

City Cubs, who are under the guidance of former Warriors defender David Kutyauripo, finished the season on a high after losing only one match while Mufakose United, who are coached by Godlin Mapisa finished the season unbeaten.

City Cubs are the feeder club of Premiership side Harare City.

Mapisa says they want to end their fairytale season without defeat when they take on City Cubs.

“We are looking forward to this match and we have been preparing for it for some time now,” Mapisa told the Daily News yesterday.

“It has been a wonderful season for us. We have worked very hard and ending the season without a defeat will be quite an achievement for us.

“We are now looking at ending the season without defeat. We will do all we can to ensure we beat City Cubs in this challenge cup. It will be a successful story for the people of Mufakose.”

The final will be curtain raised by the clash between Millennium FC which comprising football stars like Justice Majabvi, Edward Sadomba, Gilbert Mushangazhike and David Sengu against Mike Temwanjira’s Glen Norah All Stars.

Zifa Harare Province administrator Vivian Tshuma said they are looking forward to a good final and has urged all football fans to come in their numbers and support the future stars.

“We are expecting a very good game. These are two winners from our two leagues and we hope the match will live to its billing,” Tshuma said.

“We are urging fans especially from Highfield, Glen Norah and surrounding areas to come in their numbers and witness some exciting football. There is going to be a lot of fun as former players will also take to field.”

The match between Millennium FC and Glen Noroah All Stars kicks off at 10am with the final set to start at 12pm.
