Byo honours music legends

BULAWAYO - Over 70 Bulawayo-based artistes are expected to take part in the We Honour Our Music Legends Concert set for White City Stadium tomorrow.

The gig, which will run for 16 hours, is being held in honour of living and late music heroes hailing from Zimbabwe’s second largest city.

Main performers at the gig will include Jeys Marabini, Iyasa, Clement Magwaza, Chase Skuza, Sandra Ndebele, DJ Mzoe, Sungura Masters, Zinjaziyamluma, Madlela, Mzoe 7, Guluva 7, Khuxman, Vocal X, Khuliyo, Kadder and many upcoming artistes.

The concert is the brainchild of Marabini, Iyasa’s Nkululeko Dube and concert organiser Nkululeko Nkala.

The idea for the concert was conceived by Marabini and Iyasa’s Nkululeko Dube.

According to Nkala, the concert is part of efforts to celebrate and honour Bulawayo-brewed music talent.

“We agreed to organise a concert so as to celebrate our own talent — the likes of Lovemore Majaivana, Solomon Skuza, Fanyana Dube and many more.

“All upcoming and established artistes will get an opportunity to perform. It’s for Bulawayo by Bulawayo artistes,” he said.

That is great news indeed. Bulawayo boasts a rich talent in musical arts. In honouring living and musicians those who have gone before these also need to be remembered. Have you thought of greats such as The Eye of Liberty, Paul Lunga and the madhalas The Cool Crooners and orhers I did not mention? These brought a rich diversity of music genres. May they remembered also.
