Man, 50, sexually assaults minor

MUTARE - A 50-year-old Chikanga man, who fondled a 11-year-old child and tried to buy her silence by promising to give her a dollar, has been convicted.

Michael Mlambo, who was denying the indecent assault rap, was sentenced to 210 hours of community service by magistrate Tracy Muzondo after a full trial.

He will do the community service at Chikanga Police Station.

It was the State’s case that Mlambo abused the Grade Five pupil on October 15.

According to State papers, he arrived at the girl’s residence enquiring about her parents and was told they were not home.

Mlambo then took advantage of his time alone with the minor to indecently touch and kiss her.

The fully-bearded and greying Mlambo lifted the girl’s blouse and fondled her breasts, buttocks and private parts several times.

He then kissed her twice before promising to give her a dollar so that

she would not disclose the abuse to anyone.

The girl, however, reported the matter to her older brother, who in turn informed their parents who filed a police report, leading to his arrest and trial.

Cuthbert Bhosha was prosecuting.
