Zifa sweat over Mighty Warriors

HARARE - The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) was last night still running around to secure tickets for the Mighty Warriors to travel to Cameroon for the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) which kicks off on Saturday in Yaounde.

Shadreck Mlauzi’s charges have been in camp for the past two weeks in preparation for the tournament and Zifa communications officer Xolisani Gwesela last night told the Daily News that the association was seized with ensuring the team travels by today.

“We are currently working on securing the team’s tickets and we will give you more details later in the day (yesterday),” Gwesela said. “We hope the team travels tomorrow.”

The Mighty Warriors, who are pitted against African powerhouses Cameroon, South Africa and Egypt in Group A, will begin their account against neighbours Banyana Banyana at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé on Saturday before facing Egypt three days later.

Mlauzi’s ladies will then complete their group assignments against Cameroon on November 25 with the top two teams proceeding to the semi-finals.

The Mighty Warriors did not have the best of preparations which was largely due to financial constraints.
