Chivaviro lines up mega collaboration

HARARE - Award-winning gospel artiste Togarepi Chivaviro has featured Mathias Mhere, Blessing Shumba, Agatha Murudzwa, Leonard Zhakata, Olinda Marowa and Josh Kays on a single titled Maranatha (Come Lord Jesus).

The single, to be released next month and which also featured South Africans Muzi, Putuma and Zandie on backing vocals, appears to be an attempt by Chivaviro to use again the winning formula which propelled his biggest hit, Ebenezer, to dizzy heights.

On the award-winning Ebenezer, Chivaviro featured Charles Charamba, Bethen Pasinawako-Ngolomi, Rumbi Zvirikuzhe, Kudzi Nyakudya, Mechanic Manyeruke, Noel Zembe and Lawrence Haisa.

The South Africa-based gospel artiste told the Daily News yesterday that Maranatha had been recorded in response to public request.

“It just follows a special request by most of our fans to give them another collaboration-album after Ebenezer. All recording has been completed; we are just putting final touches to the project to be unveiled on December 21 in Harare,” Chivaviro said.

The Ebenezer singer said the launch of the single has been put forward to the end of December to give his latest single more time to flourish on the market.

“We could have done it earlier, but we want to give Mhepo Inoperekedza enough time on the market, and we could also have dropped it well next year, but I am taking a long break from music at the end of this year to focus on other aspects of our ministry and studies too,” he told the Daily News.

Chivaviro, however, denied that the forthcoming single was an attempt to replicate the success enjoyed by Ebenezer.

“Fans should not expect another Ebenezer, definitely not! This is Maranatha and the artistes we have called to help us are different too. It is just another collaborative effort, set to pass a unified message from different artists speaking in one song,” he said.

Interestingly, Maranatha was produced by Blessing Masanga who also did Ebenezer which scooped the Best Collaboration Award at the Trumpet Africa Music Gospel Awards held in South Africa last May.

Chivaviro’s other albums include Peace, Hope and Love (1999), Power (2000), Best of Rev TT Chivaviro (2006), The Return (2009) and Ishe Taungana (2013) and Ebenezer Tiri Munyasha.
