Warriors step up preps

HARARE - The Warriors preparations for their international friendly match against Tanzania on Sunday at the National Sports Stadium will go into full swing today following the arrival of several foreign-based players called for duty.

Kalisto Pasuwa has called in his strongest squad for the game as he seeks to assemble a competitive side for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon in January next year.

By yesterday morning, almost all the foreign-based players — including Belgium-based forward Knowledge Musona — took part in the team’s first training session while Khama Billiat was scheduled to arrive yesterday afternoon.

“Most of the foreign-based players have arrived, the likes of Bruce Kangwa will be coming in any time this afternoon and Khama Billiat (yesterday),” Warriors team manager Shariff Mussa said told the Daily News yesterday.

“We have had our first training session this morning (yesterday) and we are expecting to intensify the training programme tomorrow (today) as well as Saturday.

“All the players showed great energy and enthusiasm and they all performed quite well.

“We never really saw any signs of fatigue or knocks and injuries.”

Zimbabwe’s match against Tanzania on Sunday will be the team’s second international friendly inside a week after the locally-based team dismissed Zambia 1-0 last weekend at the same venue.

The Warriors were pooled in a tough Group B for the Afcon tournament alongside African heavyweights Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia.

The Warriors definitely need all the help they can get to prepare to square up against these aristocrats of African football.

Warriors Squad:

Goalkeepers: Donovan Bernard (How Mine), Tatenda Mkuruva (Dynamos), Nelson Chadya (Ngezi Platinum)

Daily News if you report that we are paired alongside heavyweights Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia what is your intention of using the ¨?eavyweights¨. You want to instil fear in our team? No heaveyweights anymore and stop making our Warriors frightened.
