Pool finals set for Gweru

HARARE - The annual Carling Black Label (CBL) Pool Competitions curtain comes down this weekend with the finals slated for Gweru.

Two months of intense pool competition will finally be concluded with the two-day finals that will run from Saturday to Sunday at Barns Sports Bar in the City of Progress.

The Delta Beverages-sponsored event through its Carling Black Label brand has seen a massive expansion with 24 regional competition areas hosting provincials this year up from last year’s 10.

A total of 150 players have qualified for the national finals in the men’s category and 25 women in the women’s category.

Delta marketing manager Patricia Murambinda said: “CBL National Pool Championship has so far been the largest pool tournament.

“Over 2 000 pool players have participated in the regional competitions this year, an increase of about 700 players compared to last year.

“Delta Beverages, through its CBL brand has contributed tremendously to the development of pool in Zimbabwe.

“We have players who have benefited immensely from this marriage with pool...Delta’s vision to enhance sport and culture in the country is well partnered by the objectives of the national association and the players or supporters at large.”

The partnership between Delta and the Pool Association is in its 10th year running.

“It is a win-win game for the Carling Black Label drinkers as they enjoy big value for their money and entertainment,” Murambinda said.

“It is a smart source of income for quality players. We have no doubt that local talent is being afforded the chance for dreams as masters of the game to come to fruition.”

This year’s road to the finals started on October 1.
