Rapper Dice teams up with Ca_lvin again

HARARE - Denise “Dice” Edwards, who collaborated with award-winning hip-hop artiste Cal_vin on a track titled Rad last year, has released yet another song on which she features the Bulawayo-based rapper.

The just-released track, interestingly titled M.O.M.M which stands for money on my mind, also featured GZE.

“It was a pleasure working with Cal_Vin on the track because he is a very professional artiste and he is versatile. Therefore it’s always easy working with him. Begotten Sun also introduced me to GZE who is a mature and very thoughtful lyricist,” said Dice who is also a film director, actress, writer, producer and film editor.

The multi-talented artiste co-wrote the song with Cal_Vin, GZE and Begotten Sun — the producer of Jnr Brown’s hit Tongogara.

“Slasha created the beat and Amvis recorded, mixed and mastered the track. M.O.M.M talks about our dreams and aspirations. It centres on the themes of hardwork and focus towards a lifestyle we all aspire to have,” she told the Daily News.

Dice could not be drawn into comparing her latest track with Rad but is convinced that M.O.M.M will appeal to a broad range of listeners.

“I am always working hard to make my next project better than my last and much as I wouldn’t say M.O.M.M is better, I think it’s diverse and commands a different audience,” said the co-founder of a Harare-based film production house called Invision Studios.

Dice’s latest offering is accompanied by a chic video which was directed by Charles Mugaviri Jr. at Invision Studios.

“We were really happy that Quest Motors came on board which is something that I feel needs to happen more,” she said.

Due to her commitments at Invision Studios, which include the production of the Wedding Diaries series on Dstv’s Zambezi Magic, Dice has ruled out the production of a full-length album anytime soon.

“At the moment I am enjoying making music and putting singles out. We will see what the future holds. As when you roll a dice you never know what number it will land on. So expect anything at any time from me,” she said.

Though Dice is very passionate about her music career, she would be the first to admit that it is playing second fiddle to filmmaking.

Last year, Dice directed a television series called Wine and Dine with Tumi, which is also aired on Zambezi Magic on DStv. This year she has produced three television shows that will be broadcast by Zambezi Magic and ZBC-TV later this year.

The highlight of Dice’s film-making career was co-writing and co-producing a film called Far From Yesterday which featured  musician Ammara Brown, John Cole, model Jonathan Denga, Gani Phiri, Stacey Danana, Gani Phiri, and seven-year-old Hana Madzikanda who went on to win the Ziwa 2015 Actress of the Year Award.
