Chitiyo boost for City

HARARE - Harare City have been handed a major boost ahead of their Chibuku Super Cup semi-final clash against FC Platinum on Saturday at Mandava Stadium with the timely recovery of midfielder Ronald Chitiyo.

Chitiyo missed Harare City’s 2-1 defeat to Hwange over the weekend with a bout of flu.

The return of Chitiyo will give Moses Chunga much more flexibility in terms of options in the middle of the park as they seek to reach the final.

The Sunshine Boys booked their place in the last four of the competition after seeing off ZPC Kariba 4-3 on penalties after the match had ended 2-2 in regulation time.

“It’s good that (Ronald) Chitiyo is back having missed last weekend’s game with a severe bout of flu,” Chunga told the Daily News yesterday.

“It is, however, a different story with defenders (Arnold) Chiveya and (Munyaradzi) Diro Nyenye who are still out with ankle injuries. It’s very unfortunate because it has been our case all season not to have our full squad available because of injuries.”

On their game against FC Platinum, Chunga said: “When we produce a good performance we can beat anyone and we will go for the kill. I want my team to play with no restrictions and with the belief that they can win this Cup. What makes a difference in these games is belief, tempo and the form of players. We have the desire and belief. It’s down to the performance on the day.

“We will be looking for a win. We know FC Platinum are a very good team but we are playing well at the moment, creating chances and winning games, and we have confidence.

“When you play in games like these you want to win and to do that you have to score goals, so we will be looking to do exactly that.”

Chunga added that he is not worried about facing FC Platinum at Mandava, saying he feels at home anywhere in the country and will enjoy a lot of backing from Shabanie Mine fans where he coached the former premiership side in 2004.

“I’m more at home at Mandava. I coached Shabanie Mine and I am sure their legion of fans will definitely be rallying behind me,” Chunga said.

FC Platinum will be desperate to redeem themselves with a win to keep alive their league and Cup double dream alive. Norman Mapeza’s charges are in third place on the log after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Ngezi Platinum Stars at the weekend.
