Chibuku Super Cup venues confirmed

HARARE - The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed the venues of this weekend’s semi-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup.

The first semi-final pitting Harare City and FC Platinum will take place on Saturday at Mandava Stadium.

Ngezi Platinum will travel to Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday to take on Highlanders in the second semi-final. Both matches will be live on SuperSport.

Although they will be designated as the away side, FC Platinum will have a tough time of bouncing back at Mandava where the fans have turned against coach Norman Mapeza.

The platinum miners have failed to win their last two league matches which has seen their title charge go off the rails.

Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Ngezi Platinum, the Zvishavane-based side’s fans protested heavily against Mapeza.

“I’m disappointed and the supporters are also disappointed but at the end of the day we have to move on,” Mapeza said after the match.

“The supporters have their reasons to be furious but at the end of the day we came here to look for three points and the guys gave their all on the field. If they don’t appreciate what the guys are doing on the pitch then it becomes difficult.”

Platinum’s poor run in the league started with a 2-1 defeat to Harare City two weeks ago and this weekend’s clash provides them with a chance to avenge that loss.

Harare City, who are the defending champions of the competition, go into this semi-final on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Hwange last Sunday.

The Sunshine Boys have been blowing hot and cold since Moses Chunga took over and the Chibuku Super Cup provides them a chance of some silverware.

In the other semi-final, Ngezi Platinum will be out to avenge the 2-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of Bosso last month.

Ngezi were holding Highlanders 1-1 at Barbourfields when the home side were awarded a hotly-contested penalty a few minutes before the end.

Erick Mudzingwa scored from the spot to give Bosso all three points but that was before Ngezi players caused a five-minute stoppage as they protested against the penalty decision.
