Early blow for Makepekepe

HARARE - CAPS United have been dealt an early blow ahead of Sunday’s Harare derby against bitter rivals Dynamos following the suspension of forward Leonard Tsipa and speedy winger Phineas Bamusi.

The two players will miss the clash after picking up yellow cards in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Border Strikers at Dulibadzimu Stadium.

Tsipa picked up his first caution in the first half of the season against Harare City before getting the other two cards in both matches against Border Strikers.

Bamusi has to sit out the Harare derby after accumulating three yellow cards in the matches against Chicken Inn, FC Platinum and weekend’s tie at Strikers.

At 35, Tsipa has been in prolific form this season for the Green Machine scoring 11 goals this campaign which has catapulted his side to the top of the table.

Bamusi has been an unsung hero this season for the Green Machine, providing a number of assists with his blistering pace down the wings.

United are on 53 points and lead second-placed FC Platinum by two points while Highlanders are in third place with 50 points.

With only four games to go before the season comes to an end, Makepekepe have a real chance of ending their title drought which dates back to 2005.

However, it will be the suspension on these two influential players ahead of Sunday’s crucial match against DeMbare which will provide a stern test to Llyod Chitembwe’s Makepekepe.

Although Dynamos have had a season to forget with only three wins in their last 10 league matches, against CAPS, they are likely to raise their game.

DeMbare are likely to put all their problems behind in order to give a good performance for their fans during Sunday’s match.

In Tsipa’s absence, Makepekepe will be banking on Dominic Chungwa to provide the much-needed goals against the Glamour Boys.

Chungwa has found the back of the net seven times this season which is a good return for a second choice forward.

He has also netted important goals including his stoppage time winner against How Mine last month when United’s title push appeared grinding to a halt with a draw and interestingly, he scored the winner when United grounded Dynamos at Rufaro in the reverse tie.

Winger Tafadzwa Rusike is likely to come in and replace Bamusi against the Glamour Boys.

Rusike returned from injury at the weekend and scored in the victory over Border Strikers.

The Green Machine will be aiming to do a double over the Glamour Boys after winning the reverse fixture 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Norman Mapeza’s  FC Platinum will also be without influential centre back Gift Bello for the home clash against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Mandava Stadium.

Bello picked up yellow cards in matches against Bulawayo City, Hwange and in their defeat to Harare City over the weekend.

Highlanders will also be without defender Benson Phiri, who is also suspended after getting cautions in the matches against Ngezi Platinum, Border Strikers and Chapungu at the weekend.
