Mutsvangwa's son cleared

HARARE - Former war veterans minister Christopher Mutsvangwa’s son, Neville, who was accused of raping a 43-year-old woman has been acquitted of the charges.

Harare regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya ruled that the State failed to prove a prima facie case against Mutsvangwa.

“The complainant’s evidence was poorly presented. At one time she told the court that she wanted accused person to apologise and gave the impression that the police were the ones after him,” Mujaya said while passing his judgment on Wednesday.

“She blamed the police for arresting the accused person and the moment a complainant’s case is not credible. The State’s case then collapses.”

Mujaya ruled that the complainant’s evidence was not credible as she hopped from one statement to another.

“When asked to demonstrate positions (in which she) was raped, complainant indicated two positions and one is left to wonder whether she was made to bend over or lie down on the sofa. One does not know whether it was a tactic to exaggerate,” Mujaya added.

According to court records, Neville and the complainant regularly played casino together at Borrowdale Race Course and developed a sexual relationship that later turned sour.

This woman walks to a cop shop freely and files a rape report. For some reasons she turns hostile. Rape is a very serious offence , I think they ought to be law that limit the control and powers of the victim over the case once reported. Rape carries a sentance of +10yrs as such someone should be held accountable and do the time. Extorting, corrupt victims should be sent to jail because time and resources have been used. Its unacceptable for sexually abused victims to demand a mere apology. Mutsvangwa boy may walk free from the courts of law, but the bedroom court back home its life sentance.

Why do you refer to him as Christopher's son. He is Neville Mutsvangwa and Chris has nothing to do with what he did. Are we trying to tarnish Chris because of his son. I don't see the purpose of this. Even pictures of Chris are being attached to this story. Hatred or something else that we are missing? That woman should have been jailed. There are many men behind bars because of false accusations.
