Imprisonment over national flag absurd

EDITOR — The nation must be astounded at the announcement by Justice ministry permanent secretary Virginia Mabiza that anyone abusing the national flag would be imprisoned.

What does abuse mean?

It can be so open to interpretation that the police can now arrest anyone using the flag to show patriotism.

As your paper points out, when there is an international sports fixture, spectators love to show their patriotism by buying the flag off street vendors and waving it around the streets and in the stadiums.

We are now told this is criminal as the flags are not sold or purchased with the ministry’s permission.

An over zealous police officer can arrest anyone waving the flag as he could construe it to be showing disrespect.

Obviously, now the police will beat up and arrest anyone showing their patriotism with a national flag at a demonstration.

Hundreds of vendors will lose their right to earn a living by selling the flag.

Vendors should stop wearing the flag at street lights depriving drivers from having colourful vendors breaking the monotony of the roads.

In short, everyone had better stop using the flag and return to ignoring it outside official events.

The absurdity that this rogue Government is going to suppress the people seems to have no end right now.

Perhaps Nera should come up with a flag we can all rally around to show our patriotism at national sports events and demonstrations.

Zanu-PF, 36 years, is a failed, tried and tested organization. Zanu-PF has totally failed to accommodate unison in diversity. Just that! Zanu-PF's real problem was organization's pliability to accommodate RG Mugabe's abnormal condition -NPD- Narcisist Personality Disorder. The only person who vocalized the disorder, was Mavhaire. For the whole, supposed to be educated people, they failed to notice that they have a sick leader! Now, they are locked up in a myopic rut. Now, whose fault is it? It is the organization, not RG Mugabe! RG Mugabe does not own Zanu-PF. Right now, Joyce Mujuru and Mavhaire look better than the rest of Zanu -PF, as it were. Naturally that is why the likes of Mujuru and Mavhaire are nor with the crowd today, The flag is not the issue but only a symptom. The cause is that we have a Mafia mob running our country whose god father is RG Mugabe. Pathetic!

Zimbabweans are very proud people. The national flag is something that is loved by every patriotic Zimbabwean. Only those who burn the flag or use it to commit crime are evil. Also those who are corrupt, who steal national resources such as our precious minerals, who steal drugs from hospitals, steal PSMAS funds, steal at NET ONE, steal at ZESA, steal and run down the ministry of transport, Air Zimbabwe, NRZ , steal from ZIMDEF, abduct and kill innocent citizens of Zimbabwe must be arrested.
