Warriors drop on Fifa rankings

HARARE - The Warriors plunged three places down the ladder in the latest Fifa/Coca-Cola world football rankings released yesterday.

The Warriors whose last international match was a 0-1 defeat to Guinea in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Conakry at Stade 28 Septembre earlier this month, are now ranked 113th in the world and 35th in Africa.

The Warriors have a great opportunity to push for a place in the top 100 when they take part in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations Finals to be held in Gabon.

Meanwhile, Brazil were the biggest movers in the top 10, rising from ninth to fourth, their highest ranking since they hosted the 2014 World Cup.

The Selecao made a winning start to life under new manager Tito as they cruised to a rare win away in Ecuador and a 2-1 win over Colombia to re-energise their qualifying campaign.

Argentina and Belgium retained their places respectively as the top two in the rankings  for the sixth successive month.

Uruguay also entered the top 10, with Italy falling down to 13th.

England climbed above the Italians into 12th after Adam Lallana scored a late winner over Slovakia to give Sam Allardyce victory in his first game in charge recently.
