Anti-govt protestor 'abducted'

HARARE - Radical pressure group Tajamuka/Sesjikile member Sylvanos Mudzvova is said to have been abducted from his home in the dead of the night on Tuesday, upon which he was tortured severely by armed men who were interrogating him over funding for the pro-democracy outfit’s activities.

Yesterday, Tajamuka — which has been holding a series of demonstrations in a bid to force President Robert Mugabe to resign — released horrifying pictures of Mudzvova, who is admitted at the Avenues Clinic in Harare.

Mudzvova told the Daily News from his hospital bed that he had been abducted by unknown gun-totting assailants, before they drove him to an unknown location where they assaulted and tortured him badly.

“The men who took me were not ordinary people. The guns that they had, and the information that they were asking for, as well as the way they beat me made me believe that they were very connected to the system.

“Some of the things they had I can’t identify, except their guns and torturing equipment.

“They also injected me with an unknown substance,” the traumatised Mudzvova told the Daily News yesterday.

Police spokesperson Charity Charamba was not reachable on her phone to provide official comment.

But Mudzvova said he was not hopeful that police would assist him, as he suspected that his armed abductors were government agents.

“I will make a report to the police, but I am not expecting anything,” he added.

In the absence of Tajamuka spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi, over the past few weeks, who was released yesterday on bail by the High Court, Mudzvova and Hardlife Mudzingwa have been playing leading roles in organising the group’s demonstrations.

The pressure group has been unwavering in its quest to see the back of Mugabe, with the outfit filing a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court last month, seeking to have the increasingly frail nonagenarian removed from office on charges of gross human rights violations.

In July, Tajamuka, working with others such as exiled activist clergyman Evan Mawarire, organised arguably one of the most successful protests to have hit the country when tens of thousands of workers heeded their call to stay away from work in protest against Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown.

Mudzvova has had several run-ins with law enforcement agents over his activism. In April, he was arrested for staging his new one-man play Missing Diamonds, I Need My Share in front of Parliament building in Harare.

This was after Mugabe had said $15 billion raised from diamond sales in Marange had gone missing.

Mugabe must by now surely realize that his family will one day realize the consequences of all these abductions and brutal beatings - even when he is gone, they will be the revenge target. And wouldn't it be nice to hear Morgan, Joice, Didymus being a whole lot more vocal opposing Mugabe? Nobody can or ever will convince me that they aren't Mugabe's agents.

Very sad indeed that such things happen in a democratic Zimbabwe and the culprits go unidentified and unpunished. Saka if you committee a crime in the name of Zanu PF it is OK, and it is never investigated conclusively. Many criminal cases have been committed recently and over the years by Zanu PF activitists from destroying people's houses and killing people and they are walking around freely havo vanotenderwa kuita HUMHONDI. This is truly not fair and it is very undemocratic. Watoitwa kafiramberi ka uyu. But Zanu PF and Mugabe and you vanotumwa kuita izvi, pliz know that WE ARE HUMANS TOO AND WE DESERVE TO BE TREATED AS SUCH. [-tee on committee]

GENERAL WARNING: 1. NGOs will face Human Rights violations charges for sponsoring Africans to undermine government programs and putting human life at risk in the process. 2. Africans must resist being exploited by foreign funded NGOs. If you think acquiring knowledge is expensive try ignorance, it can kill you.

If anyone like Emerson Munangagwa or Grace Mugabe wants to rule after Mugabe , they must get a hold on this issue of torture and expose who is doing it.Honestly citizens have a right to demonstrate and not expect to be visited in the dead of the night by C.I.O's .Robert Mugabe , Chihure, Bonyongwe, Munangagwa , Sekeramayi and Mphoko surely know who is doing this and under whose directive they are doing it. Surely to have issues like these in 2016 is the height of barbarity and thuggish behaviour that Robert Mugabe routinely resorts to when he is cornered because he lies to people that the Rhodesians crushed his balls. Robert Mugabe is a Thug , an anarchist and respects no law, when hi cornerd he turns into a murderous viper and in 2016 to subject born-free's to torture is shameful

Very sad indeed. I saw the images. Pathetic!! But whoever did that, next time take your time to imagine such cruelty being exhibited to your son/daughter. Let alone yourself. Are you aware that a human being was created in the image of the Almighty? But just coz you want to remain in power, continue looting, corruption, rape, murder, aeroplane life and sleeping at every summit.

Abductions/kidnappings and disappearances of civil rights activists are works of the Zanu PF Government security agencies. Get this CORRECT!!
