Tuku for Morgan Heritage concert

HARARE - Superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, who recently collaborated with Zimdancehall artiste Winky D, has been presented with an opportunity to share the stage with Jamaican reggae family, Morgan Heritage at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on October 14, courtesy of 2 Kings Entertainment.

Branding his music beat as Katekwe, Tuku will be showcasing alongside all-Zimdancehall artistes that include Freeman, Templeman, Garry B and Winky D.

“Tuku is a versatile artiste who can perform and thrill at any platform, above all he is our own superstar, an internationally-acclaimed musician hence he should exchange notes with another internationally-renowned group, Morgan Heritage,” said 2 Kings Entertainment spokesperson D Nosh.

Before the Morgan Heritage concert, Tuku is expected to launch new album Ehe! Kani Nhai Yahwe on September 22 at his Pakare Paye Art Centre in Norton before invited guests while a public event will be held on September 30 at Borrowdale Country Manor, courtesy of D&G Events.

Morgan Heritage was billed to perform in the country during their Morgan Heritage 3 Generation tour Africa 2014 but the concert was cancelled due to a number of reasons among them Ebola fears.

The Jamaican reggae family that comprises five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan, aka Peetah, Una, Roy aka Gramps, Nakhamyah aka Lukes and Memmalatel aka Mr Mojo formed their band in 1994.

The reggae outfit has a record of pulling thousands of fans to their concert but the local promoters are not worried about the venue size.

“We understand the majority of Morgan Heritage concerts are held in open spaces but here we settled for an indoor with a carrying capacity of 5 000 and it is well with us,” said D Nosh.

The group boasts of releasing well-received albums such as Protect Us Jah, One Calling, Don’t Haffi Dread, More Teachings, Three in One, Full Circle and Mission In Progress among others.

The group toured Europe on several occasions and the reggae outfit worked with different talented artistes such as Capleton, Junior Kelly, Luciano, Gentleman and Beres Hammond among others.

In 2012, Morgan Heritage released the single The Return which put them on another level before releasing the album Here Come the Kings the following year.
