Zanu PF activists nabbed for kidnapping

RUSAPE - Four Zanu PF activists have been nabbed for abducting, torturing and robbing an MDC-T activist in Chiduku, Rusape, before dumping him in a drain.

Lovemore Mutanhaurwa, 30, Benedict Kondongwe, 49, Jephita Matanda, 44 and Farai Matsika, 23, were not asked to plead when they appeared before magistrate Patience Ururu-Madondo who freed them on $50 bail each.

The four are being charged with kidnapping Stewart Chandimhara.

They robbed Chandimhara of $178 during the ordeal.

Prosecutor, Event Dhliwayo, alleged that the quartet unlawfully arrested, detained, tortured and dumped Chandimhara in a drain on June 18, 2016.

The four allegedly arrived at Chiduku Business Centre, where Chandimhara was, at around 2200 hours and introduced themselves as Zanu PF officials who were on a tour of duty.

It is alleged that at around 2300 hours, Chandimhara walked home and went past the four who were parked nearby, before  Matanda and Matsika forcibly grabbed him, cuffed him and bundled him into Mutanhaurwa’s vehicle.

They then drove off with him and stopped after about five kilometres towards Rusape.

The four allegedly assaulted Chandimhara before Mutanhaurwa uncuffed him and dumped him in a drain near Mavhudzi Business Centre where he spent the night.

He sustained visible injuries and also realised he had been robbed of $178 but was not medically examined.

The four were however, only recently arrested after a long investigation.
