Makandiwa's wife celebrates birthday with orphans

HARARE - The wife of United Family International Church (UFIC) Emmanuel Makandiwa — Ruth — yesterday hosted her birthday celebrations with over 400 orphans at a local hotel in Harare.

Celebrations were held under the church’s charity arm — Agape Family Care — which over the years has extended a helping hand to hundreds of widows and orphans.

Orphans who made it to yesterday’s celebrations, where Makandiwa’s wife handed out a number of free gifts and presents, were drawn from a number of orphanages around the country.

UFIC spokesperson Prime Kufa  told the Daily News that it was part and parcel of the vision of the clerics to extend the message of hope, love and future to the underprivileged.

“The message of the man and woman of God has always been to give these young ones a message of hope, love and a future.

“This is why there was a deliberate move to push this year’s celebrations to a hotel so that they have a feel of what the future holds for them.

“They believe future leaders of the nation can come from these children. Also, beneficiaries of the Agape Family Care university scholarships were present so that they also give hope to the young ones, who are on average in Grade Four, that it is possible to reach that level,” he said.

Kufa added that yesterday’s spread excluded widows — who are usually part of the celebrations — to accommodate orphans who also included university graduates who were under the Agape Scholarship scheme.

“Widows are usually hosted during the celebrations but today’s celebrations were for orphans only and they will be hosted on their separate event.

“We had university graduates from the scholarship scheme also coming to thank mama for the good gesture that was extended to them.”

Last December, the Agape Family Care also conducted hundreds of free eye-cataract surgeries in Chipinge, Buhera and Chimanimani.
