Former Zanu PF chair acquitted

MUTARE - Former Zanu PF Manicaland women’s league chairperson, Joyline Chipo Porusingazi and her treasurer, Pedigree Matara who were on trial on 13 charges of theft of $37 466 have been acquitted.

Porusingazi, and Matara were alleged to have connived to raid the Zanu PF women’s league bank account 13 times in 2014.

However, last week Mutare magistrate Langton Mkwengi acquitted the duo after a full trial.

It was the State’s case that the two connived to steal cash which had been deposited for a dinner dance.

Signed withdrawal slips were brought to the court as part of the evidence.

According to a provided schedule, Porusingazi made six withdrawals ranging between $2 000 ad $10 000 with Matara making seven withdrawals ranging between $440 and $3 000.

It was however, established during trial that the duo did not convert the money to personal use.

Malvern Musarurwa was prosecuting.

Poruzingazi's husband was a temporal teacher in 1984/1986 he left after it was discovered that he was using stolen certificates. The discovery was after he stole a radio from one of the school teacher at Machureni School in Chiredzi. In the pursuit of that case then it was noted he is using falls ids documents. Later he left and was asked by his brother in law to buy a car, instead of the culprit buy a car used the money and paid the in law later. When he joined ZANU PF and in early 1992/1999, he swindle several tones of maize meant for poor food relief by government, milling it and selling it in villages of Chipinge, used soem of the proceeds to bribe his election into MPs ranks of ZANU PF. When he lost elections to MDC-T he called himself shadow MP and exploited the poor still selling maize meal to places like Gadira, Gudo and Checheche in Chipinge and Chiredzi which he would have take from GMB depots in Chiredzi, Mutare and Chipinge. Now it seems that fraud and thieving runs in the family, wife and husband. As a person I am worried about such even his children may be thieves as well. It amazing that police and magistrate failed to convict the two. After money was withdrawn, were the two able to provide evidence that the funds were used for the ZANU PF women's league's authorized expenditure and approved before use. Unless it was an planned theft. Beside such cases require a competent commercial public prosecutor of which ZANU PF has filled these post with PP poised for political cases as that is the only serious case MUGABE and his ZANU PF does not want to go unpunished.
